Angelica Kauffman painted prolifically and was one of the most famous female painters of not only her time but of all time, depending of course on who one asks. Her work in historical genre often depicted scenes or characters from Homer’s epics, the Iliad and The Odyssey. In her position in 18th century Europe, primarily in England, the context of this paper is to argue why she would use Homer’s epics and characters as those through which she painted images of the virtuous female. The intention of this essay is to argue that Kauffman used Homer’s epics as the literary foundation for her artwork on the virtuous woman because of the similarities between the war-torn Troy/Greece and the expectations both of and on women left behind. Historical Background The way in which to identify why Kauffman would have chosen Homer’s works as an indicator of virtue in women is to connect it to the historical background of the works in Kauffman’s time. This involves a look at the violent revolution that occurred just a decade after these works by Kauffman were painted and the suggestion that for Kauffman, the paintings may have been something of a premonition based on the science and cultural acceptance of the woman’s body and of sexuality at that time. In short, Kauffman may have saw a need for virtue and used Homer’s classic but frightfully violent, conflict-driven epics as a means of displaying that need. Serial Killers Serial killers have struck fear in the hearts of people, yet the public remains fascinated and intrigued by the crimes perpetrated by these individuals. There are several theories and factors that have been attributed to serial killers in an attempt to explain their behaviors. Furthermore, by indentifying the behaviors that are exhibited by serial killers, law enforcement professionals are able to gather information about these serial killers that will assist in the apprehension of the criminal. In the majority of serial homicides, a motivating factor, in addition to domination and manipulation of a victim, is the sexual gratification and desire that is experienced by the serial killer. The Today s Soccer Big West Conference Championship Game...

The live sporting event that I chose to observe was the 2015 Woman’s Soccer Big West Conference championship game with Cal State Fullerton competing against Cal State Long Beach. The game took place on Sunday, November 8th at 1:00pm at Cal State Fullerton. This game is significant because it determines who wins the Big West and who qualifies for the NCAA tournament, so pressure on the players and intensity are very high. Throughout the game, I observed the game as a sport psychologist professional and observed the player’s and coach’s behaviors that relate to Sport Psychology. Another observation that portrays situational awareness was when the goalie of Cal State Fullerton predicted where the ball was going to be kicked during the attempted score of a Long Beach State player. Instead of waiting for the opponent to kick the ball and then reacting, the goalie predicted where the ball was going to travel and jumped as the opponent was making the kick to deflect the ball. According to Weinberg and Gould, athletes who have good situational awareness, â€Å"always make it seem as if they are a step ahead of everyone else.† The goalie was able assess the situation quickly and stay a move ahead of her opponent because she had been in this situation in the past. Her situational awarene ss gave her a competitive edge, allowed her to make the appropriate decision, and prevented Long Beach State from scoring any points.
